Al Bundy has always hated Christmas and this year is no exception. As the head of the Bundy household, he has decreed that there will be no Christmas presents for anyone. However, when Peg suggests to the children that they should buy Al a present, they come up with the perfect idea: a clock that plays a different tune every hour.
Meanwhile, Al's old friend, Luke, visits and tells him that he has a job at the local department store playing Santa Claus. Al is outraged at the idea of his friend being a sell-out and refuses to believe that anyone would want to sit on a strange man's lap to tell him their Christmas wishes.
At the store, Luke is a hit with the children and even helps a little girl who has lost her parents. But when he takes Santa's suit home to wash it, Al accidentally puts it on and is mistaken for the real Santa Claus by a group of children on the street.
As Al runs away from the children, he hides in a department store where he overhears a group of children talking about their Christmas wishes. One boy, who is blind, wishes for the ability to see. Al is touched by the child's wish and decides to make it come true.
With the help of Luke, Al becomes the real Santa Claus and grants the children's wishes. But when Peg finds out about the clock and the fact that Al has been playing Santa Claus, she is angry that he has spoiled her plan for the perfect Christmas.
In the end, Al learns the true meaning of Christmas and that giving is often more important than receiving. He and Peg make up and enjoy a peaceful Christmas together with the children.
