Marriage, Not Dating is a romantic comedy television series that aired on tvN from July to August 2014. The show follows the story of Gong Gi-tae, a successful plastic surgeon who has no interest in getting married, and Joo Jang-mi, a woman who is determined to find a husband but keeps failing at every attempt. When Jang-mi's family thinks that she's dating Gi-tae, the two decide to pretend that they're a couple to avoid getting set up for blind dates by their families.

The show starts off with Gi-tae, who is dreading his upcoming blind date with a colleague's sister. He persuades Jang-mi to pose as his girlfriend, hoping that his plan would prevent his mother from setting him up for marriage again. However, Gi-tae's plan backfires when his mother, who is the CEO of a marriage consultancy firm, finds out that Gi-tae is in a relationship and insists on meeting Jang-mi's family. In a desperate attempt to prevent his mother from meddling in his love life, Gi-tae lies to his family that he and Jang-mi are getting married.

As the two continue to pretend to be in a relationship, their feelings for each other start to grow. While Gi-tae initially only saw Jang-mi as a means of getting his mother off his back, he slowly starts to become attracted to Jang-mi's lively personality and kind heart. Similarly, Jang-mi who originally disliked Gi-tae for his cold and unapproachable attitude, starts to see beyond his facade and discovers his true caring nature.

Along the way, the two face numerous obstacles as they try to keep up their act. Jang-mi's ex-boyfriend, who is still in love with her, tries to sabotage their relationship by exposing their real intentions. Meanwhile, Gi-tae's mother, who disapproves of Jang-mi, tries to break them up by introducing Gi-tae to other women.

As the series progresses, the two eventually fall in love and realize that they don't need to pretend to be a couple anymore. However, they soon realize that their families won't accept their relationship, and they must overcome societal expectations and family pressures to be together.

The show has a delightful cast, including Han Groo as Jang-mi, Woo-jin Yeon as Gi-tae, and Jin-woon Jung as Han Yeo-reum, Jang-mi's somewhat attached friend. The characters are well-developed, and the chemistry between the cast members is tangible, adding to the show's entertaining value. Additionally, the show's humor is top-notch, with various comedic scenes and situations that keep the audience engaged and entertained.

Marriage, Not Dating explores themes such as familial expectations and societal pressures to get married. The show provides an insightful commentary on the Korean dating culture and the struggle that many young singles face when trying to balance their career aspirations and love life.

In conclusion, Marriage, Not Dating is an engaging romantic comedy that delivers a fresh take on the genre. The compelling storyline, well-crafted characters, and well-timed humor make for an entertaining viewing experience. The show's exploration of societal expectations and familial pressures adds a layer of depth to the story and makes for a relatable viewing experience for audiences of all ages.
