Mammas is a documentary about motherhood. However, it's not based on the 'usual stuff'. These females' approach to child rearing is unique. Why? They aren't human. The mothers are a dunnock, a cuckoo, a hamster, and a spider. A film short is made about each detailing true-to-life facts about how they raise their offspring. Consequently, one actress portrays them all while wearing a costume.

This show uses an offbeat method to inform viewers about varying maternal practices in nature. What's showcased isn't pretty. There's no teary eyed story for onlookers to embrace.
