- February 3, 2002
The episode "Company Picnic (2)" is the 12th episode of the third season of Malcolm in the Middle. The episode follows the chaos that ensues at the annual Lucky Aide company picnic, where Hal and Lois have been volunteered to organize the company softball game.
As the episode begins, Hal and Lois are frantically trying to prepare for the picnic. They argue over every detail, but eventually settle on a plan that involves bribing Malcolm and Reese to join the softball team with promises of a new computer and a motorcycle, respectively.
Meanwhile, Francis and Piama are on the run from the law after accidentally burning down a barn. They hide out in the woods with their pet llama, but soon find themselves being pursued by a group of hunters.
Back at the picnic, Dewey becomes convinced that he is going to die after drinking a soda he found in the woods. He spends the whole day convinced that he has contracted a rare disease, much to the amusement of his siblings.
Malcolm and Reese do their best to sabotage the softball game, but their efforts are thwarted by the other team. In the end, Hal and Lois's team wins the game, and Malcolm and Reese are forced to admit defeat.
The episode ends with Francis and Piama being chased out of the woods by the hunters, and Dewey discovering that the soda he drank was actually a rare and valuable vintage soda.
Overall, "Company Picnic (2)" is a classic episode of Malcolm in the Middle, full of the zany antics and dysfunctional family dynamics that made the show so beloved. From the warring parents to the scheming brothers to the ridiculous subplot involving Francis and Piama, there is never a dull moment in this episode. Fans of the show will not want to miss it.
