In Major season 1 episode 1, titled "Goro's Dream and Daddy's Dream," we are introduced to Goro Honda, a young boy with big dreams of becoming a professional baseball player like his father, Shigeharu Honda. Shigeharu is a former pro baseball player who is now a coach, and he sees a lot of potential in his son.
The episode begins with Goro playing tee-ball and imagining himself hitting a grand slam in a real game. His father watches him play and encourages him to keep practicing. Later, when they're watching a professional baseball game on TV, Goro tells his father that he wants to be a pitcher like him. Shigeharu is thrilled that his son wants to follow in his footsteps and promises to help him achieve his dream.
But Goro's dream of playing baseball is put on hold when he falls ill and has to be hospitalized. Shigeharu is heartbroken to see his son in such a vulnerable state and is reminded of his own father, who died when he was just a boy. He reflects on his own childhood and how his father's death affected him, and he realizes that he wants to be there for Goro no matter what.
As Goro recovers in the hospital, he has a vivid dream where he's playing baseball with his father and has the chance to hit the winning run. But as he swings the bat, he wakes up and realizes that it was just a dream. Shigeharu reassures him that one day, his dream will come true.
Meanwhile, Shigeharu is faced with a difficult decision when a professional baseball team offers him a coaching job. He knows that this could be his big break and a chance to make a name for himself, but it would mean leaving his family behind and missing out on crucial years of Goro's development.
In a touching moment, Shigeharu watches Goro playing baseball with his friends and realizes that his son's dreams are just as important as his own. He ultimately decides to turn down the coaching job and stay with his family.
The episode ends with Goro and Shigeharu playing catch together, with Goro once again imagining himself on the pitcher's mound in a big game. This time, however, it's not just a dream – he's one step closer to making his dream a reality.
Overall, "Goro's Dream and Daddy's Dream" does an excellent job of setting up the themes and characters that will carry throughout the series. Viewers get a sense of Goro's passion and determination, as well as his father's love and sacrifice. The episode is both heartwarming and poignant, and it sets the stage for what promises to be an emotional and inspiring journey for all involved.
