Four of a Kind is the eleventh episode of the fourth season of the crime procedural drama, Major Crimes. This episode is a continuation of a three-part story arc that began with the previous two episodes.
As the team investigates a string of church burglaries, they discover that the thieves are actually a group of four homeless teenagers. The teenagers are all runaways from abusive homes and have formed their own makeshift family on the streets.
This episode explores the struggles of homeless youth, highlighting the fact that they are often victims of abuse and neglect, and are forced to turn to crime in order to survive. It also touches on the importance of community outreach and support for homeless youth.
As the team attempts to track down the teenagers, they soon realize that they are more than just petty criminals. One of the teenagers is a gifted hacker who has been recruited by a dangerous cyber-criminal. The team must race against time to stop the cyber-criminal from committing a major cyber-attack.
Meanwhile, Captain Raydor (Mary McDonnell) grapples with her decision to adopt Rusty, a teenage boy whom she took in when his mother was murdered. Rusty struggles with the possibility of having to testify in court about the traumatic events he witnessed.
The episode also explores the lives of the detectives outside of work. Detective Flynn (Tony Denison) deals with personal issues when his daughter comes home from college and Detective Sykes (Kearran Giovanni) must confront her estranged father who has re-entered her life.
Overall, Four of a Kind is a thought-provoking episode that delves into serious social issues such as homelessness, cyber crime, and family dynamics. It shows the challenges that detectives face both on and off the job and emphasizes the importance of community support in solving crime and tackling important social issues.
