Mahabharat is one of the most epic and popular religious shows in India. It is a story about an epic battle between Pandavas and Kauravas which actually took place thousands of years ago. The show has been remade and broadcast by several different channels, but the first season originally aired in 1988. The second episode of season 1 features the introduction of the main characters of the show.

The episode begins with the introduction of King Shantanu, who is known for his bravery and valour. He is shown fishing in the river when he sees a beautiful woman who is actually the goddess Ganga. She asks him to marry her, but with one condition: he must never question anything she does. Shantanu falls deeply in love with her, and they are married. Ganga gives birth to seven sons but each time she gives birth, she takes the baby away and drowns it in the river. Shantanu is heartbroken over this, but he does not question her.

Finally, when Ganga gives birth to their eighth son, King Shantanu cannot take it anymore and he questions her actions. Ganga reveals that she was following the orders of Lord Brahma, who had commanded her to do this. She then returns to her divine form and tells Shantanu that she must now return to heaven. Before leaving, she gives him his eighth son, Devavrata, who is later known as Bhishma.

The episode then focuses on the introduction of the Kuru dynasty. The Kuru dynasty was ruled by a king named Bharata, and when he died, his sons took over the kingdom. The eldest son, Duryodhana, is shown to be evil and selfish, whereas the younger Pandavas were kind-hearted and obedient. The Pandavas were the five sons of Pandu, who was the brother of Dhritarashtra, the father of Duryodhana. Pandu was unable to have children due to a curse, so he asked his wife Kunti to use her special power to bear children with other gods.

As a result, Kunti gave birth to three sons: Yudhishthira, Bhima, and Arjuna. They were joined by two other brothers, Nakula and Sahadeva, who were born to Pandu's second wife, Madri. The Pandavas and Kauravas grew up together under the watchful eye of their grandfather, Bheeshma. However, as they grew older, the differences between them became more noticeable.

The episode also introduces Draupadi, who is shown to be a strong and independent woman. She is the daughter of Drupada, the king of Panchala, and is known for her beauty and intelligence. She is the wife of all five Pandava brothers due to a vow she made to Lord Shiva.

The episode ends with the introduction of Lord Krishna, who is shown to be a wise and noble leader. He is a king and a warrior, but he is also a philosopher and a teacher. He offers his guidance and support to the Pandavas, and is known for his role in the upcoming battle between the Pandavas and Kauravas.

Overall, the second episode of Mahabharat season 1 sets up the storyline and introduces the main characters of the show. It highlights the complexity of the relationships between the characters and lays the groundwork for the epic battle that will ensue. It is a must-watch for anyone interested in religious dramas or Indian culture.
