Magnum P.I. season 6 episode 3, titled "Old Acquaintance," centers around Thomas Magnum, a private investigator who works for the wealthy Robin Masters in Hawaii. In this episode, Magnum is attempting to locate an old military buddy who has been missing for several years. Along the way, he reconnects with an ex-girlfriend who provides him with valuable information about his missing friend's whereabouts.
As the episode begins, Magnum is in his office going over paperwork when his old flame, Hannah, walks in. She and Magnum briefly catch up before she reveals that she knows something about Magnum's friend, Billy. According to Hannah, Billy was involved in some shady dealings before he disappeared, and she believes that someone may have wanted him dead.
Magnum takes this information to heart and begins to investigate Billy's disappearance further. He starts by tracking down Billy's ex-wife, who is now living in California. She tells Magnum that Billy was last seen in Hawaii with a man named Eric, who was supposedly involved in the same criminal activity as Billy.
Determined to find Eric, Magnum enlists the help of his friend, Rick, who owns a bar in Honolulu. Together, they go to Eric's last known address and question his ex-girlfriend, who reveals that Eric had been running a scam on tourists and locals alike.
With this new information, Magnum and Rick decide to set up a sting operation to catch Eric in the act. The plan seems to be working until Eric catches on and starts shooting at them. Magnum is able to apprehend Eric with the help of an old police buddy and brings him in for questioning.
Through Eric's interrogation, Magnum learns that Billy was in fact killed by a man named Max, who was also involved in the scam. Max had been blackmailing Billy for years, and when Billy tried to break away from the operation, Max had him killed and framed Eric for the murder.
In the end, Magnum is able to bring Max to justice and find some closure for Billy's grieving family. The episode ends with Magnum saying goodbye to Hannah, who reveals that she has moved on and is now engaged. Despite this, it is clear that Magnum still has feelings for her.
Overall, "Old Acquaintance" is a thrilling episode that showcases Magnum's skill as a private investigator. It also highlights the importance of friendship and the lengths we will go to for those we care about.
