4. My Very Best Friend

Homura challenges Walpurgisnacht alone and is seriously wounded. She despairs because she can't win no matter how many times she tries. Her actions are making Madoka suffer even more, and she becomes despondent. Her Soul Gem begins to turn black. Madoka appears in front of Homura. She stares at Walpurgisnacht with determination and declares to Homura,"I found my wish." Now she knows everything about the magical girl's destiny. What wish does she have; what decision is she going to make?

3. The Only Thing I Have Left to Guide Me

Sayaka's funeral was held in the rain. Madoka returns home with vacant eyes. She barely says anything to Junko who met her at the front door, and goes into her room. Kyubey appears in front of Madoka, who is lost in her grief, alone. He talks so coldly about Sayaka's death that even Madoka feels anger. Kyubey doesn't understand Madoka's reaction, and starts telling the history of how his species has walked alongside the human race so far.

A scene depicting a female transfer student. The timid girl is so nervous and meek. She introduces herself shyly while feeling the eyes of all the students in the class. At recess, other girls gather around her and ask questions curiously. The girl is overwhelmed and unable to say a word. Another girl saves her from the situation. She says she is the Nurses' Aide for the class. The new girl thinks she is not worthy of her name. The other girl, with a kind smile, replies she thinks her name is cool. The new girl is behind the other students in grades and physical strength because she was hospitalized for a long time. On her way home, she struggles with feelings of inferiority and wanders into a witch's labyrinth by chance. Two magical girls appear at her moment of need.

1. I'd Never Allow That to Happen

Sayaka's Soul Gem turns into a jet-black grief seed, which hatches and a new witch emerges. Carrying Sayaka's body, Kyoko focuses on defending against the approaching witch's attacks. Homura cuts into the witch's labyrinth and leads Kyoko to escape. While searching for Sayaka, Madoka finds Kyoko and Homura walking with a heavy step. Madoka bursts into tears at the sight of Sayaka's body. Homura coldly reveals the last secret of the Soul Gem and leaves. At midnight, Kyubey appears in front of Kyoko. They discuss reviving Sayaka's body and Kyoko learns of one last possibility. The next morning, as Madoka and Hitomi walk to school, Kyoko contacts Madoka using telepathy and makes a surprising suggestion.
