Ep 1. Chapter 1

As the first episode of the hit French Netflix series Lupin begins, we are introduced to the suave Assane Diop (played by Omar Sy), a man determined to avenge the perceived injustice done to his father Babakar, who died in prison after being accused of stealing a priceless necklace from his employer’s home 25 years ago.

In the present day, a grown Assane works as a janitor at the Louvre and has a teenage son named Raoul. One day while on the job, he comes across a book about Arsene Lupin – a famous fictional thief created by French author Maurice Leblanc – which sparks Assane’s interest in using Lupin’s tactics to seek revenge on the wealthy Pellegrini family, whom he believes are responsible for his father’s death.

Assane’s plan involves stealing a necklace that is owned by one of the Pellegrinis, but the heist is not as straightforward as he hopes it will be. Along the way, we learn that Assane’s father was a chauffeur for the Pellegrinis, and was framed for the theft after being set up by the family’s patriarch, Hubert Pellegrini, who was having an affair with Babakar’s wife Anne.

As Assane sets his plan into motion, we see flashbacks to his childhood and learn more about his relationship with his father. We also see that Assane is a master of disguise, able to convincingly take on different personas as he carries out his plan.

As the episode progresses, we see more of the obstacles that Assane must overcome in order to carry out the heist. One of the Pellegrini sons, Romain, is hosting a birthday party at the family’s mansion, and Assane must find a way to slip in unnoticed and steal the necklace from around Romain’s neck.

Overall, the premiere episode of Lupin is a thrilling introduction to the show’s world, with Omar Sy delivering an engaging performance as the charismatic and cunning Assane. The episode sets up a compelling mystery that weaves together themes of family, class, and revenge, leaving viewers eager to see how the story will unfold in later episodes.
