The show Lunatics revolves around six eccentric characters, all played by the creator Chris Lilley, who each have their own unique storylines. In season 1 episode 4, appropriately titled Episode 4, we follow the daily life of Joyce, a former porn star turned hoarder.
Joyce, played by Lilley himself, is a character that is impossible to ignore. Her house is piled high with various objects, ranging from newspapers to mannequin heads, and she has a hard time throwing anything away. As a result, her house is a cluttered mess, and getting around is almost impossible. Joyce's mental state continues to deteriorate as the episode progresses, and her hoarding becomes more severe.
Joyce's storyline is not the only one explored in Episode 4. We also follow the journey of Petunia, a girl who is desperate to be Instagram famous. Petunia sets up a series of photoshoots in an attempt to increase her followers, but things don't quite go as planned. Though she experiences some setbacks, Petunia remains determined to achieve her goal, and we see her adjust her strategies throughout the episode.
Meanwhile, Quentin Cook, a self-described entrepreneur, is trying to launch a new product. Quentin's character is a parody of the typical start-up founder, and his latest invention, a waterproof phone, doesn't quite hit the mark. Quentin continues to push the product despite its flaws, and we see him struggle to get any traction.
Elsewhere in the episode, we follow the story of Gavin, a fashion designer who is struggling to come to terms with the changing fashion industry. Gavin's designs are unconventional, and he finds himself struggling to keep up with the demands of the fashion world. His storyline highlights the challenges that creative individuals face in a world that is constantly evolving.
Finally, we see Becky, a college student who is struggling to fit in with her peers. Becky's character is a reflection of the pressures that young adults face, particularly when it comes to fitting in and finding a sense of belonging. Though she feels out of place, we see Becky begin to form connections with those around her and find her place in the world.
Throughout Episode 4, we see the characters of Lunatics face a variety of challenges, both big and small. The episode highlights the absurdities of modern life and the difficulties that people face in their day-to-day lives. Despite the challenges, each character remains determined to succeed in their own way, and the episode offers a unique glimpse into the human experience.
