In the eighth episode of Lucifer season 1, entitled "Et Tu, Doctor?" we see Lucifer team up with Chloe to solve the murder of a therapist who had a secret underground fighting ring - an activity that was apparently enjoyed by some of his patients. As they investigate, they become aware that the case may be more about the victim's son, Dylan, who is struggling to live up to his father's expectations and questions his own identity.
As the two delve deeper into the case, Chloe comes to understand Dylan's insecurities as he struggles to break free from his father's controlling grip. Meanwhile, Lucifer, who has seen how the fight club brings out people's deep-seated desires and insecurities, becomes increasingly intrigued by this aspect of human nature. Thanks to Mazikeen's help, Lucifer discovers he has a little bit of fight club in himself – and it's not just because he's the lord of the underworld.
In this episode, we also see Dr. Linda trying to keep her sessions with Lucifer under wraps, but he eventually opens up to Chloe about their sessions together and the fact that his late brother was his only real friend. Chloe, in turn, begins to open up to Lucifer, telling him about her past and the struggles of her childhood.
Although the two have been at odds throughout the series, their teamwork in this episode reveals a deeper trust and understanding between the two characters. They each have their own insecurities and secrets, but in each other, they've found someone they can confide in, while they both strive to solve the case.
As the episode progresses, the killer becomes more elusive and dangerous, driving the pair into a final showdown that will leave them both changed forever, even as they continue to struggle to reconcile their respective natures.
Overall, "Et Tu, Doctor?" is a gripping, character-driven episode that reveals a great deal about the series' overarching themes of identity and self-doubt. Its exploration of the psychology behind the fight club and the underlying motivations of those involved add new dimensions to the characters and the world around them. Meanwhile, Lucifer and Chloe's growing bond hints at even more interesting character developments to come in subsequent episodes of the series.
