Ep 1: Don't Tell Me Your Dreams
"Love My Way" is an Australian family drama series that follows the lives of a dysfunctional family as they navigate the complexities of love, relationships, and personal growth. The show's first episode "Don't Tell Me Your Dreams" sets the stage for all the emotional turmoil and self-discovery that's to come throughout the season.
The central character of the show is 31-year-old Frankie Paige, played by the talented Claudia Karvan. Frankie is a fiery, free-spirited woman who's struggling to come to terms with her recent breakup with her boyfriend, Tom. Frankie is also a working mother and shares a son with Tom. The painful breakup has left Frankie in despair, and she doesn't know how to move on from her lost love.
In the beginning, we see Frankie trying to find solace in her work as a sculptor and her parenting responsibilities. Despite her emotional pain, she tries to hold it together for her son, Lou. However, Frankie's world takes an unexpected turn when her deceased mother's house goes up for sale. Frankie's mother passed away years ago, but the house holds a lot of memories and emotional baggage for Frankie and her family. The prospect of losing the home causes Frankie to spiral further into her emotional chaos.
Meanwhile, we see Frankie's brother, Charlie (Dan Wyllie), who is a struggling musician and a bit of a wild card. Charlie is also feeling the pressure of trying to provide for his family and dealing with his growing fame as an artist. The two siblings have a close relationship, and they try to lean on each other for support during tough times.
Their sister, Juliet (Asher Keddie), is a successful lawyer and is married to a wealthy businessman, Simon. However, it's clear from the beginning that there are cracks in their relationship. Juliet is unfulfilled by her luxurious lifestyle, and it's evident that she may be struggling with some deeper issues.
Another significant character in the show is Tom (Brendan Cowell), Frankie's ex-boyfriend and the father of her son. Tom is a struggling writer who's trying to find his footing in the literary world. The tension between Frankie and Tom is palpable, and it's evident that there's still a lot of unresolved feelings between the two.
"Don't Tell Me Your Dreams" is a beautiful opening episode that establishes the main characters' complex and intertwined world. It explores themes of love, heartbreak, grief, and the slow journey to find meaning and happiness in life. The writing is excellent, and the acting performances are top-notch.
