The episode becomes dreamlike as we glimpse into Louie's imagination, where he sees himself inside the sea-lion's enclosure, swimming with them.
He is then joined by a group of sea-lions who communicate with him in English. They advise him on how to depict their culture and beauty, and it opens his mind to a new approach to painting and reflects on the importance and beauty of art as a tool for expression.
Louie returns to the Zoo's bench and spends the entire day trying to sketch the sea-lion as accurately as he can. Finally, after an entire day of tireless labor, he finds the courage to present his drawing to Pierre. The sequence of events that follow leads to a profound epiphany and some of the most emotionally charged moments in the series.
