In season 6, episode 8 of Lost, titled "Recon," the focus shifts to James "Sawyer" Ford. After last week's intense episode that saw Locke leading his group to the Temple and Sayid being resurrected, "Recon" takes a bit of a breather by shifting the focus to Sawyer's past and present.
As we know, Sawyer became a cop in Los Angeles after escaping from the island and has been working undercover to take down a criminal. In "Recon," we see Sawyer take on a new mission when he's recruited by Charles Widmore to go on a recon mission to Hydra Island, where the other group of survivors is located. Sawyer is skeptical of Widmore's intentions, but he agrees to go in exchange for information about the man who killed his parents, who he believes is also on the island.
Sawyer is joined on the mission by Miles, who provides some comic relief and serves as a source of information about the other group. Once they arrive on Hydra Island, Sawyer goes undercover as one of the other group's members and quickly discovers that they're not exactly what he expected. He meets Charlotte, who was a member of the Oceanic 815 flight and who used to have a crush on him, and finds out that the leader of the group is none other than the man who conned him out of his parents' savings, Anthony Cooper.
As Sawyer spends more time with the other group, he starts to question his loyalties and his mission. He's torn between his desire to find out more about Anthony Cooper and his growing feelings for the group's other members. We also get some glimpses of Sawyer's life before the island, including a touching scene with his daughter, who he named Clementine after the song.
Meanwhile, back on the main island, Kate and Claire have a heart-to-heart conversation about Aaron and their respective roles in his life. Jack and Hurley go on a mission to find Sayid, who has disappeared after his resurrection. And we learn more about the history of the island when Richard talks to Ben about the purpose of the mysterious Temple.
Overall, "Recon" is a slower episode that focuses on character development and backstory rather than plot progression. It's a welcome break from the intense action of the previous episodes and provides some much-needed insight into Sawyer's character. The episode ends with a twist that sets the stage for the next episode, but for the most part, "Recon" is a standalone episode that can be enjoyed on its own.
