Ep 12. Dead is Dead

As the title suggests, "Dead is Dead," the twelfth episode of the fifth season of Lost explores the concept of death and its permanency. The episode begins with a flashback to Ben's past on the island. John Locke, after taking the initiative to save Ben, demands that Ben kill his father, Roger Linus. As Sawyer and Juliet attempt to neutralize Kate's threat, Ben continues to feel guilty about his past transgressions and departs to seek redemption. His journey ultimately leads him to the home of Chandrasekhar, the high priest who is capable of communicating with the island's deceased spirits. Ben begs him to speak to his daughter, Alex, who was tragically murdered by Charles Widmore, seeking her forgiveness and guidance. During their conversation, Chandrasekhar reveals that he is aware of Ben's recent actions and questions the sincerity of his regret.

Following his reunion with Alex, Ben ventures back to the island, where he finally confronts Locke and acknowledges his previous betrayal. Despite his pleas, Locke remains resentful and hurt by Ben's actions, refusing to forgive him for his past mistakes. Determined to make amends, Ben searches for a way to prove to Locke that he is now a changed man. He eventually discovers the location of the island's notorious "smoke monster" and attempts to harness its power in order to save his friends. In the process, Ben faces a reckoning with his past and his more sinister inclinations.
