After the shocking events that happened in the previous episode, the second part of the pilot episode begins with Jack, Kate, and Charlie trying to find the cockpit of the plane that crashed on a mysterious island. Meanwhile, Sayid, a former Iraqi soldier, uses his technical skills to try to make a distress call from the plane's radio.
As they trek through the jungle, they encounter several obstacles, including difficult terrain, injuries, and a strange creature that seems to be lurking in the jungle. They also find a transceiver and attempt to use it to call for help, but they only hear a distress signal from a French woman that has been playing for 16 years.
Back at the beach, the survivors begin to establish a makeshift community and look for food and shelter. Some begin to form alliances, while others find themselves ostracized. One survivor, Locke, seems to have knowledge of the island and becomes a valuable resource to some of the others.
As night falls, a storm rolls in, causing chaos and destruction on the beach. The survivors must work together to stay safe and protect each other from the elements.
Throughout the episode, flashbacks provide insight into the lives of some of the characters before the crash, including Jack's struggles as a doctor, Kate's delinquent past, and Charlie's drug addiction.
Overall, the second part of the pilot episode of Lost continues to build the suspense and mystery surrounding the show. Viewers are left with more questions than answers, but are eager to watch the rest of the season to uncover the secrets of the island and its inhabitants.
