Ep 5. Robin Hood Daffy

  • March 8, 1958

Robin Hood Daffy is a classic episode from the Looney Tunes series that premiered in 1958. The episode follows Daffy Duck, who takes on the persona of Robin Hood in an attempt to steal from the rich and help the poor. The comical antics that ensue when Daffy tries to play the role of a hero are what make this episode one of the most memorable in the Looney Tunes archive.

The episode begins with Daffy walking through the forest, dressed in a green cape and a feathered hat, announcing himself as "Robin Hood, of course." His first target is the stately home of Porky Pig, who he believes to be the wealthiest person in the area. His plan is to steal money from Porky and distribute it to the poor animals who live in the forest.

As Daffy sneaks around Porky's house, trying to find a way in, he is caught by a guard dog. A hilarious chase then ensues, with Daffy running around the garden trying to escape from the dog while still maintaining his Robin Hood persona. When he is finally cornered, Daffy uses his quick wit to trick the dog into leaving him alone, and Porky comes outside to see what all the commotion is about.

Porky is not impressed with Daffy's Robin Hood act and chases him away, but not before Daffy steals Porky's necktie, which he later uses as a disguise. Daffy's next target is the castle of the evil King John, who he believes to be the richest person in the land. He plans to steal from the king and distribute the money to the poor, just like Robin Hood.

When Daffy arrives at the castle, he uses Porky's necktie to disguise himself as a prince and gains entry to the castle. As he searches for the treasure room, he is caught by the King's guards. Once again, a hilarious chase ensues, with Daffy trying to outrun the guards while still maintaining his royal persona. After several close calls, Daffy manages to escape and finds the treasure room.

However, when he opens the treasure chest, he finds it filled with canned goods instead of gold and jewels. Daffy is disappointed but realizes that the canned goods will be just as valuable to the poor animals in the forest. He takes the canned goods and distributes them throughout the forest, where they are received with much gratitude.

However, the king and his guards catch up with Daffy, and a final chase ensues. Daffy manages to escape by jumping into a river and floating downstream, but he is swept over a waterfall and ends up back where he started, outside Porky's house.

In the final scene of the episode, Daffy is seen sleeping outside Porky's house, muttering about his failure to become a hero like Robin Hood. As Porky comes outside to shoo him away, Daffy wakes up and declares that he's not giving up on his dreams and will not be deterred from becoming the hero he knows he can be. The episode ends with Daffy walking away, still dressed as Robin Hood, ready for his next adventure.

Overall, Robin Hood Daffy is a classic Looney Tunes episode that is sure to make viewers of all ages laugh out loud. With its hilarious comedy and unforgettable characters, this episode is a must-see for anyone who loves classic cartoons.
