Ep 20. Greedy for Tweety
- September 28, 1957
Looney Tunes season 1957 episode 20, Greedy for Tweety, follows the iconic cat and bird duo of Sylvester and Tweety in their usual game of cat and mouse.
The episode starts with Sylvester wandering around with a book in hand, which is revealed to be a cookbook titled "101 Ways to Cook a Canary." As he reads through the pages, he envisions all the delicious meals he could make, causing his mouth to water.
Soon enough, Sylvester spots Tweety and sets his sights on catching the bird for his next meal. However, Tweety proves to be too quick and outmaneuvers Sylvester at every turn, leaving the feline frustrated and hungry.
But Sylvester is not one to give up easily. He concocts a plan to lure Tweety into a trap by pretending to be asleep on a hammock with a birdcage and a bowl of seeds nearby. Tweety, being the curious and mischievous bird, falls for the trap and enters the cage to snack on the seeds.
However, Sylvester's plan is foiled by the arrival of Granny, Tweety's owner, who unknowingly releases the bird just in time. Sylvester tries to explain his actions to Granny, but she doesn't seem to believe him and threatens to throw him out if he doesn't stop bothering Tweety.
Undeterred, Sylvester comes up with another plan to trick Tweety into getting trapped in a store window display. He sets up a fake birdcage and pretends to be asleep next to it. Tweety, thinking that Sylvester is out for the count, decides to inspect the cage, only to get locked inside.
However, Sylvester's plans once again get foiled, this time by a little boy who accidentally breaks the display window. Tweety uses the distraction to escape, leaving Sylvester in yet another failed attempt.
Ultimately, Sylvester's greed and obsession with catching Tweety prove to be his downfall, as he keeps coming up with more and more convoluted plans to get the bird, each one more ridiculous than the last.
In the end, the episode culminates in a hilarious chase sequence through a maze-like room filled with doors that lead to different places. Sylvester and Tweety dart in and out of doors, each trying to outsmart the other.
But as always, Tweety manages to get the upper hand, leaving Sylvester humiliated and defeated once again.
Overall, Greedy for Tweety is a classic Looney Tunes episode that perfectly captures the comedic genius of the iconic cartoon characters. It's a must-watch for any fan of the series, as well as anyone who appreciates good old-fashioned slapstick humor.
