Ep 4. Beanstalk Bunny
- February 12, 1955
Daffy Duck takes the lead in the fourth episode of the 1955 season of Looney Tunes, entitled "Beanstalk Bunny." The episode begins with Daffy and Porky Pig as hapless vegetable salesmen trying to make a buck. After a day of dismal sales, Daffy decides to throw in the towel, but Porky remains optimistic, insisting that they keep trying.
The two come across a sleeping farmer who had recently harvested a massive carrot. Daffy sees the opportunity for a big sale and tries to sell the carrot to the highest bidder. However, Bugs Bunny swoops in and steals the carrot. Daffy and Porky chase after him, which leads them to a magic beanstalk.
Bugs eats the magic beans, causing the beanstalk to grow to enormous heights. He climbs up the beanstalk with Daffy and Porky trailing behind. They reach the top to find a castle inhabited by a giant. Bugs manages to sneak in and steal some of the giant's treasures. However, Daffy, being greedy, ends up getting captured by the giant while trying to take everything for himself.
Bugs and Porky devise a plan to rescue Daffy. However, their plan goes awry, and Porky ends up getting captured as well. It's up to Bugs to save the day and rescue his friends from the clutches of the evil giant.
The episode ends with Bugs, Daffy, and Porky returning to the real world with their newly acquired treasures. However, they discover that the carrot they had intended to sell had been eaten by Bugs while they were away. The episode concludes with Porky remarking, "Well, back to the vegetable business!"
"Beanstalk Bunny" is a classic example of the type of wacky, zany humor that made Looney Tunes and its characters so beloved by generations of viewers.
