Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman is a television show that aired from 1993 to 1997. It revolves around the life of the Daily Planet reporters Lois Lane and Clark Kent, as well as their superhero alter egos, Superman. In season 2, episode 18, titled "Tempus Fugitive," we see the return of an infamous time-traveling villain named Tempus.
Tempus, played by actor Lane Davies, is a smooth-talking, charismatic villain from the future. He first appeared in season 1, where he schemed to change the course of history by sending Lois and Clark to an alternate reality where he ruled the world. However, his plan was foiled, and he ended up in jail. In "Tempus Fugitive," he manages to escape and returns to cause more trouble for our heroes.
The episode begins with Tempus traveling back to the 1700s in Smallville, Kansas, where he disrupts the meeting between Andrew Jackson and a Native American chief. He steals a precious artifact, a necklace with mystical powers that can control time itself. Tempus plans to use this necklace to change history and create a new world order. He enlists the help of a scientist from the future named H.G. Wells, played by Terry Kiser, who agrees to help him build a time machine.
Meanwhile, Lois and Clark are investigating a story about a rash of criminal activities in Metropolis. They come across Tempus, who is posing as an executive at a prestigious law firm. They suspect that he is up to something and begin to dig deeper. Soon, they discover his plan to use the mystical necklace to change the course of history. They also learn that he has kidnapped H.G. Wells and is using him to build a time machine.
Lois and Clark hatch a plan to stop Tempus and his evil plan. With the help of H.G. Wells, they build a time machine of their own and travel back in time to the Wild West. There, they confront Tempus and engage in a thrilling shootout. They manage to retrieve the necklace, but Tempus escapes.
Back in present-day Metropolis, Lois and Clark find that Tempus has changed the course of history and that the world is now a dystopian society, ruled by him. They must find a way to go back in time and stop him from using the necklace to change history. They enlist the help of H.G. Wells, who agrees to help them travel back in time.
The final act of the episode takes place in the White House, where Tempus has just been inaugurated as the President of the United States. Lois and Clark burst in and engage in a fight with Tempus and his henchmen. They manage to get their hands on the necklace and restore the timeline to its original state. Tempus is then apprehended and sent back to jail.
"Tempus Fugitive" is a fast-paced, action-packed episode that sees the return of one of the show's most iconic villains. The episode also features the debut of the character H.G. Wells, who becomes a recurring character in later episodes. The episode offers a tantalizing glimpse into what could happen if the course of history were changed, and how Lois and Clark would have to work together to set things right.
