In the fifth episode of season 6 of Locked Up Abroad, titled "Black Palace of Horrors", viewers follow the story of Karl Williams, a British businessman who tries to make a quick buck by smuggling drugs out of Indonesia.
Karl, who is desperate for money, thinks he's hit the jackpot when he's offered a huge sum of money to smuggle drugs from Bali to Jakarta. Despite knowing the risks, he decides to take the job, thinking it's a one-time opportunity to make a quick fortune.
But things quickly spiral out of control for Karl. As soon as he arrives in Jakarta, he's introduced to his handlers, a group of shady men who make it clear that they'll be keeping a close eye on him and won't hesitate to harm him if he tries to run. Karl soon realizes that he's in too deep and decides that he needs to back out of the deal.
However, his handlers don't take kindly to this and start threatening him. Karl tries to leave Indonesia, but his handlers kidnap him and take him to their headquarters, a run-down building known as the "Black Palace of Horrors". Here, he's held captive and subjected to brutal torture methods in an attempt to force him to reveal the location of the drugs.
Karl decides that he needs to find a way to escape and manages to break free from his captors. With the help of a friendly stranger, he makes his way back to Bali but is soon caught by the police. He's arrested and taken to a maximum-security prison, where he's sentenced to 15 years behind bars.
The episode offers a harrowing look at the dark world of drug smuggling and the devastating consequences that can come with it. Viewers will be kept on the edge of their seats as they watch Karl's story unfold, wondering if he'll ever be able to escape his captors and make it back home.
