The show follows the life of Macarena Ferreiro, a timid and innocent woman who finds herself imprisoned for fraud charges after she falls in love with her manipulative boss, who sets her up as a scapegoat.

The first season of the show begins with Macarena, who is portrayed by Maggie Civantos, as she arrives at the Cruz del Sur prison to serve her sentence. She is a young, middle-class woman who has never lived on the edge. She is quickly thrust into a harsh world where she must fight to survive.
