Bhagat and Kavya have been living together for over three years now and they're happy. They share a home, their interests, and most importantly they share a beautiful bond of love and friendship. They're each other's confidante and they've seen each other through the various phases of their lives.
In episode 3 of season 3, titled Rectangles, we see the couple struggling to come to terms with their changing perspectives in life. While Kavya is trying to explore new heights in her professional life, Bhagat is finding solace in small things like waking up early, going for a jog and reading books.
The episode starts with Bhagat, who is a graphic designer, struggling with a design project. He gets agitated and angry, which is something very unlike him. Kavya who's just returned from work tries to cheer him up but her efforts are in vain. She realizes that Bhagat is not just facing creative block, but he's going through an existential crisis.
Kavya tries to take Bhagat's mind off things and decides to surprise him by ordering his favorite pizza. But Bhagat still seems lost in his thoughts. Kavya then decides to have a heart-to-heart with him and talk about their future. Bhagat, who initially resists the conversation, finally opens up about his fears and insecurities.
He tells Kavya that he's not sure if graphic designing is his true calling and wonders if he could do something more noble with his life. Kavya tries to reassure Bhagat and tells him that it's okay to feel lost sometimes and that he should give himself time to figure things out.
In the meantime, Kavya gets offered a new position at her workplace which requires her to move to another city. Initially, she's hesitant to take the offer as it would mean leaving Bhagat alone. But she eventually decides to take it as it's a great opportunity for her career.
Bhagat is supportive about Kavya's decision but still seems lost in his own thoughts. Kavya then decides to take Bhagat to an art exhibition featuring the works of a renowned artist. At the exhibition, they come across a painting of rectangles of different colors. Kavya tries to understand the painting and asks Bhagat what he sees.
Bhagat, whose mind is still preoccupied, dismisses the painting as something very basic and unremarkable. However, Kavya sees beauty in the painting and tries to explain to Bhagat how sometimes we need to look beyond what's visible to find something truly remarkable.
The conversation about the painting helps Bhagat open up about his feelings and he finally confesses that he's been feeling lost and directionless. Kavya calms him down and they both share a beautiful moment where they realize that sometimes, it's okay not to have everything figured out.
Towards the end of the episode, they're shown exploring the city and doing things together like they always have. It's a beautifully shot sequence that shows them rediscovering their love for each other and finding happiness in the little things.
Rectangles is a beautiful episode that explores the dynamics of a modern-day relationship and how sometimes, it's okay to feel lost and confused. The episode feeels fresh and modern and is a great addition to the series.
