In the season 2 episode 12 of Little Mosque on the Prairie titled Jihad on Ice, tensions rise in the small town of Mercy when the local hockey team schedules a game against a team from Montreal whose players consist of mostly Muslim men. The team's name "The Jihad" causes uproar among the townspeople, who immediately protest against the game. The community members fear that the Muslim team is here to spread terrorism and bring harm to their quiet town.
Despite initial challenges, Amaar, the Imam of the mosque, believes that this is an opportunity for the Muslim community to form alliances with the non-Muslim population and show that they are no different from anyone else. With this in mind, he decides to support the Muslim hockey team by agreeing to play. He is aided in his mission by Rayyan, one of his congregation members and an accomplished hockey player. Rayyan is determined to show other hockey players that Muslims are no different from anyone else and that they can play as hard as anyone else.
Meanwhile, Sarah, the local journalist who is of Jewish descent, is investigating the hockey team from Montreal. She believes that the team's name may not be innocent and that there may be a hidden agenda behind the game. She starts digging deeper into the team's history and discovers that the owner of the Montreal team used to be a neo-Nazi and that the team was previously called "The Nazis." She believes that the team is still promoting the same ideology and wants to stop the game.
As tensions mount and tempers flare, Amaar, Rayyan, and Sarah must work together to resolve the conflict peacefully. In the end, the game goes on as scheduled, and all parties involved realize that their fears and prejudices were misplaced. The Muslim hockey team shows their sportsmanship and play a fair game, eventually winning over the crowd.
Overall, Jihad on Ice tackles the issues of Islamophobia, racism, and the importance of acceptance and community. The episode highlights the stereotypical notions that many have surrounding the Muslim community and shows that they are just like everyone else, with their own passions, goals, and dreams. It emphasizes that differences should be respected and celebrated, rather than feared and rejected. Jihad on Ice is an excellent addition to the series, showcasing the struggles and triumphs of this small-town Muslim community. The episode is sure to be a fan favorite!
