Laura and Mary are returning home from a shopping trip when they hear a strange sound coming from the barn. They quickly realize that the barn is on fire and rush to get help.
Charles and the rest of the men in town work to try to put out the fire, but it quickly becomes apparent that it is too late. The entire barn is destroyed along with all of the animals inside.
As the family tries to come to terms with their loss, they begin to suspect that the fire may have been started intentionally. When they discover that a new family in town may be responsible, tensions begin to rise.
Despite the anger and frustration felt by the Ingalls family and other members of the community, Charles works to find a way for everyone to come together and move forward. He urges everyone to forgive and forget, and to focus on the positive memories they have of their old barn and the animals that lived there.
