In "The Lake Kezia Monster," the residents of Walnut Grove are shaken by the death of a young boy who was swimming in Lake Kezia. The townsfolk fear that a monster is living in the lake and start to avoid it, but Laura and her friend Jonah refuse to let fear control them. Instead, they decide to investigate the lake and discover the truth about the supposed monster.
As they explore the lake, Laura and Jonah encounter a grumpy old man named Jed who lives nearby and has a vendetta against the town. They soon realize that the real danger at Lake Kezia is not a monster, but Jed's dangerous booby traps that he has set up to keep people away from the lake.
Meanwhile, Doc Baker is called to examine a sick child named Pauley who has been living in poverty with his family in a rundown cabin. The boy's condition is dire due to malnutrition and other health issues, and Doc Baker tries his best to help him recover.
