The plan works, and Brenda Sue is allowed to return to Walnut Grove and attend school once again. The other children have newfound respect for her and Laura is thrilled to have her best friend back by her side.
As the episode comes to a close, Laura's fears about her own mother's pregnancy are alleviated when she witnesses the birth of her baby brother. She is overjoyed to have a new sibling and grateful for the miracle of life.
