In the third episode of the first season of Little House on the Prairie, titled "100 Mile Walk," the Ingalls family faces a difficult task. After a crop-destroying hailstorm wipes out most of their food supply, Charles Ingalls (Michael Landon) and his friend Mr. Edwards (Victor French) decide to make a 100-mile journey to Mankato to receive a loan and buy seed for the upcoming planting season. Along the way, they encounter a number of obstacles, including a dangerous river and a treacherous mountain pass. Meanwhile, back at the Ingalls homestead, Caroline (Karen Grassle) struggles to keep the family fed with what little food they have left. When Charles and Mr. Edwards face a delay on their journey, Caroline must find a way to provide for her family on her own.

As they journey towards Mankato, the two men face a number of challenges. The first obstacle they encounter is a treacherous river crossing. When Charles falls off the makeshift raft they've constructed, Mr. Edwards must risk his own life to save his friend. They continue on their journey, but the next obstacle is even more daunting: a treacherous mountain pass that requires them to climb up and down steep cliffs. As they make their way up the mountain, they encounter a Native American tribe who has set up camp. Fearing for their safety, the men try to avoid the tribe, but are ultimately forced to confront their fears when they must cross an obstacle that lies in the middle of their path.

Meanwhile, back at the Ingalls homestead, Caroline faces her own challenges. With Charles and Mr. Edwards gone, she has to find a way to stretch their limited food supply to feed her family. She is tempted to eat some of the seed they have left, but knows that this will leave them with nothing to plant for the next season. Caroline must also keep her daughters Mary (Melissa Sue Anderson) and Laura (Melissa Gilbert) entertained and out of trouble while she attends to her chores.

As Charles and Mr. Edwards continue their journey, they encounter a woman in labor who needs their help. Mr. Edwards, who has delivered babies before, stays with the woman while Charles continues on to Mankato. When he finally arrives in town, Charles is met with yet another obstacle: the man who is supposed to give him the loan has gone out of town. Charles is forced to wait until the man returns, which will take several days. During this time, he is able to make friends with some of the people in town and even earns some money by playing his fiddle.

When Charles finally receives the loan, he and Mr. Edwards make their way back home, where they are greeted by a grateful Caroline. The episode ends with the family setting to work on planting their new seed, and realizing that they have grown even closer as a family through all of the challenges they've faced.

"100 Mile Walk" is a touching and inspiring episode that shows the resilience and determination of the Ingalls family. Despite facing incredible challenges and obstacles, they never give up on their goals and always find a way to persevere. The episode is a testament to the power of family, friendship, and hard work to overcome even the most difficult of situations. With its heartwarming story and engaging characters, Little House on the Prairie is a classic show that continues to capture the hearts of audiences today.
