AC-12 is back in business with their latest case in the latest episode of Line Of Duty season 5. Episode 2 takes the viewers back to the familiar territory of corrupt police officials and shady cover-up operations within the police force. The episode picks up where the season premiere left off, with the investigation team trying to decode the cryptic message left by undercover operative, John Corbett.
As the AC-12 team struggles to figure out Corbett's message, they also have to deal with their own internal issues. Superintendent, Ted Hastings, is under pressure from the police top brass who accuses him of covering up for corrupt police officers. Meanwhile, detective Steve Arnott has his own demons to fight as his addiction to painkillers starts to spiral out of control.
The episode follows the AC-12 team as they investigate the suspicious death of journalist, Gail Vella. Vella was investigating the links between organised crime and the police force and had been receiving death threats prior to her death. AC-12 suspects that there could be a police informant feeding information to the criminals responsible for Vella's murder.
Through their investigation, the team uncovers potentially explosive information about a police-led undercover operation called Operation Pear Tree. The operation targets top-level criminal organisations. AC-12 cracks the codes and gets inside the intelligence gathering unit, but they are left with a question mark surrounding the operation's legitimacy.
As the investigation deepens, the AC-12 team's suspicions turn towards a high-ranking police official, Detective Chief Superintendent (DCC) Andrea Wise. She is the lead on the Pear Tree operation, and AC-12 soon discovers connections between her and the recent spate of deaths in the department. This discovery causes a rift in the AC-12 team, as Ted Hastings and Steve Arnott disagree on how to proceed with the investigation.
While the team zeroes in on Wise, the pressure on Hastings heats up, and it becomes clear that he is being set up as a fall guy for the department's corrupt officials. The episode ends with a tense confrontation between Hastings and his accusers.
Overall, Line Of Duty season 5 episode 2 is a classic whodunit, full of intrigue and suspense. The AC-12 team is at their best as they try to solve one of the most complicated cases of their careers. The episode keeps viewers on the edge of their seats with multiple plot twists and cliffhangers. It is a must-watch for any fans of the series and serves as a thrilling reminder of why Line Of Duty remains one of the best police procedural dramas out there.
