In Line of Duty season 5 episode 1, we are reintroduced to the AC-12 unit as they investigate a high-profile case involving the disappearance of a undercover police officer, codenamed "Lena". The team, led by Superintendent Ted Hastings, is determined to find out what happened to Lena and bring those responsible to justice.
As the investigation begins, we are introduced to a new member of the team, Detective Inspector John Corbett, who appears to have his own agenda when it comes to the Lena case. Hastings is immediately suspicious of Corbett and his motives, but the rest of the team seems to trust him.
Meanwhile, Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott is still recovering from his injuries sustained in the previous season and is struggling to adjust to his new role as a desk-bound officer. He is quickly pulled back into the action, however, when a connection is discovered between the Lena case and a series of organized crime operations.
Throughout the episode, tensions run high as the team navigates their way through a web of corruption and deceit. They encounter numerous roadblocks, including uncooperative witnesses and missing evidence, but remain determined to uncover the truth.
As the episode comes to a close, the team is left with more questions than answers. They have uncovered a number of leads, but are still far from solving the case. With Corbett's motives still unclear and the clock ticking, they will need to work quickly if they hope to bring Lena's abductors to justice.
