In this episode of Lidia's Italy, titled "The Essence of Maremma," Lidia explores the Tuscan region of Maremma, known for its beautiful landscapes, ancient Etruscan ruins, and delicious cuisine.
Lidia begins her journey in the historic town of Massa Marittima, where she visits a local butcher shop to learn about the traditional curing process of salami and prosciutto. She then heads to a nearby farm to see how their cows are raised and milked, and uses the fresh milk to make some delicious ricotta cheese.
Next, Lidia travels to the coastal town of Castiglione della Pescaia, where she visits a seafood market to pick up some fresh fish and crustaceans. She then meets with a local fisherman who takes her out on his boat to catch some fish for her lunch. Later, Lidia prepares a beautiful seafood platter with her fresh catches, including squid, mussels, and shrimp.
Lidia also explores the ancient Etruscan ruins of the town of Roselle, where she visits an olive grove and learns how to harvest olives and make olive oil. She then heads to a local winery to taste some of the region's delicious wines, including Mazzoni Maremma Toscana and Sassicaia.
Throughout her journey, Lidia meets with local chefs, farmers, and artisans who share their knowledge and passion for Maremma's rich food culture. From the sea to the mountains and everything in between, Lidia discovers the essence of Maremma through its cuisine, scenery, and people.
