Liberty's Kids is an animated historical drama series that takes viewers on a journey through the American Revolution. The show is narrated by a group of young journalists who report on the events of the time, giving young viewers an opportunity to learn about the events, people, and struggles that went into creating the United States of America.

In the 35th episode of season one, titled "James Armistead," Liberty's Kids takes a closer look at a little-known hero of the Revolutionary War. James Armistead was an enslaved African American who helped turn the tide of the war in favor of the American colonists by working as a spy for the Continental Army.

The episode begins with Sarah, James, and Henri investigating rumors of a new British attack on Virginia. They soon learn that the planned attack is being coordinated by British general Benedict Arnold, who is working with traitor John André to gather information about American troop movements.

James, who has been working as a spy for the Continental Army, knows Arnold well and offers to infiltrate his inner circle to gain valuable intelligence. With the help of his friend Lafayette, James convinces Arnold that he is a loyalist and is allowed to work as a servant in Arnold's home.

Over the next few weeks, James collects information about Arnold's plans and reports back to the Continental Army using a secret code that only he and his handlers know. However, he soon realizes that his time with Arnold is limited, as the general is preparing to defect to the British side.

At great risk to himself, James offers to stay in Arnold's home and continue to gather information even after Arnold's defection. He earns the trust of André, who tells him about the British plan to capture American General Lafayette and bring an end to the Revolutionary War.

With this critical information, James sneaks out of Arnold's home and reports back to the Continental Army. Thanks to his efforts, Lafayette is able to evade capture and the Continental Army is able to mount a successful defense against the British attack.

The episode ends with Sarah, James, Henri, and Moses reflecting on the bravery and sacrifice of James Armistead, who put his life on the line to help secure American independence. They discuss how his story is a reminder that there were many heroes of the Revolution who are often overlooked by history.

Overall, the "James Armistead" episode of Liberty's Kids offers a glimpse into the life and contributions of a little-known but important Revolutionary War hero. It highlights the dangers and challenges faced by enslaved people during that time period and sheds light on the often-hidden stories of African Americans and other marginalized groups in American history. The episode is a great resource for educators and parents who want to teach their children about the true scope and impact of the American Revolution.
