In the season 8 premiere of Letterkenny, we are introduced to a new character, Squirrelly Dan's cousin, Mennonite Jesse. The episode opens with the Hicks doing some target practice in their back yard when they are interrupted by Wayne's ex-girlfriend, Rosie, who is now dating a fireman and has brought him over to show off his muscles. The fireman, Tyson, is immediately smitten with Katy, and he and Rosie join the Hicks for a drink at Modean's.
Meanwhile, Daryl and Dan are trying to figure out what to do with Mennonite Jesse, who has come to Letterkenny seeking a job. They try to teach him some new skills, but it quickly becomes apparent that Jesse is more interested in finding love than improving his work ethic. He becomes infatuated with the local librarian, Mary-Anne, and begins leaving her gifts at the library.
As the night wears on, tensions rise between Katy and Rosie as they both vie for Tyson's attention. The rest of the gang tries to diffuse the situation, but things only worsen when Tyson catches the attention of another woman at the bar. The group eventually heads back to Wayne's place to continue the party, where more drama unfolds.
Through it all, the Hicks remain stoic and unflappable, even when things get heated. Wayne, in particular, makes it clear that he has no patience for Tyson's flirtations and quickly puts him in his place. The episode ends with a twist that sets the stage for what promises to be an eventful season.
Overall, "Miss Fire" is a solid start to season 8. The addition of Mennonite Jesse adds a new dynamic to the show, and it is fun to see the characters dealing with love and jealousy in their own unique ways. The pacing is brisk, and the humor is as sharp as ever. Fans of the show will no doubt be pleased with this latest installment.
