Luna the moon guides a trio of adventurous animal friends as they learn about cultures around the world and discover everything about the countries they visit. In season 1 episode 3, "Hola Mariachi/Loco For Cocoa," the gang finds themselves in Mexico City, Mexico. The episode begins as Carmen, the butterfly character, meets a mariachi band performing in the streets. Carmen is intrigued by the beautiful music and wants to learn more about mariachi.
The group sets out to find a mariachi band that Carmen can join, but they quickly realize it's not as easy as it seems. They visit a mariachi tailor to get Carmen fitted for a traditional mariachi outfit, but they quickly discover that the tailor is also a mariachi, and he's practicing for a big performance that night. The tailor tells Carmen that she cannot join the band because she is not a mariachi, and the trio decides to help Carmen become a true mariachi. They research the history of mariachi music and visit a museum to learn more about the traditional instruments used in a mariachi band.
Meanwhile, the group also discovers the world of chocolate-making in Mexico City. Leo, the Jaguar character, is fascinated by the process and wants to create his own chocolate bar. The group visits a cacao farm to learn about the history of chocolate and how it's grown. They then visit a chocolate factory to see how it's made and learn how chocolate is used in traditional Mexican dishes.
As the day goes on, Carmen practices with the mariachi band and Leo creates his own chocolate bar. But will Carmen be ready to perform with the mariachi band at their big performance, and will Leo's chocolate bar turn out to be a success? The group experiences the rich culture and traditions of Mexico while learning valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and following your passions.
