Ep 8. Can I Get A Witness?

Riggs and Murtaugh get a call to investigate a robbery at a pawn shop, and when they arrive, they find a man with a gunshot wound lying in the street. While searching the pawn shop, they come across a surveillance camera recording that shows the victim's killer. The man, named Sam, was a witness in a murder trial. Riggs and Murtaugh know they have to find Sam's killer before the trial concludes.

The detectives discover that Sam was staying at a shelter for battered women, and they go to the shelter to gather more information. While there, they meet Trish Murtaugh's friend, Nellie, who runs the shelter. Nellie informs Riggs and Murtaugh that Sam was the boyfriend of one of the women staying at the shelter, and that he was killed because he was about to testify against her ex-husband.

With the help of Nellie and Trish, Riggs and Murtaugh are able to track down the ex-husband, who is now on the run. They bring him in for questioning, but he denies any involvement in the murder. It soon becomes clear that he's not telling the truth, so Riggs and Murtaugh decide to go undercover to catch him.

Posing as a couple, Riggs and Murtaugh go to a motel where the ex-husband is hiding out. They are able to get a confession out of him, but just as they are about to make an arrest, they are ambushed by a group of armed men. In the ensuing shootout, Riggs is wounded, and the ex-husband escapes.

Back at the station, Riggs is recovering from his injuries when Trish comes in with some news. She tells Riggs and Murtaugh that Nellie was attacked and beaten up by the ex-husband, who is still at large. The detectives decide to take matters into their own hands and track down the ex-husband, once and for all.

They find the ex-husband in a warehouse, and after a tense standoff, they are able to apprehend him. Trish arrives just as they are making the arrest, and Riggs assures her that Nellie is going to be okay.

In the end, Riggs and Murtaugh learn that sometimes the people you think you can trust are the ones who will betray you, and that doing the right thing can come at a great cost. With justice served, they head home, grateful for each other's company and for the opportunity to serve and protect the city that they love.
