Zedd is able to thwart their plans by using his own magic, but not before he is captured and tortured by Darken Rahl's minions. Zedd is eventually rescued by Richard and Kahlan, who arrive just in time to save him.

The episode ends with Richard, Kahlan, and Denna successfully locating the Book of Counted Shadows. However, their victory is short-lived, as they are soon ambushed by Darken Rahl and his army. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving audiences eager to see how Richard and his companions will survive the impending battle.
