Ep 3. The Hole Shebang
- January 11, 2016
Bryan Baeumler is a homeowner's best friend as he comes to the rescue in the sixth season of Leave It to Bryan. In episode 3, titled "The Hole Shebang," Bryan takes on a unique challenge that involves a basement renovation gone wrong. The homeowners, Dave and Heather, had started the renovation themselves, but quickly realized they were in over their heads when they hit a major roadblock. They had dug a hole in the basement, hoping to create a wine cellar, but they soon discovered that the foundation wall had been compromised.
As the episode begins, Bryan meets with Dave and Heather to get a better understanding of the problem. He quickly sees that the hole they dug is not only too big and too deep, but it also extends all the way beneath the foundation wall. Bryan knows that this is a major issue and that it needs to be fixed before any further work can be done in the basement. He explains to the homeowners that they need to fill in the hole and reinforce the foundation wall, or risk causing serious damage to their home.
Bryan begins by calling in a structural engineer to assess the damage and come up with a plan to fix it. The engineer confirms Bryan's assessment and recommends that they install new footings and support columns along the entire length of the foundation wall. This is a major job, but it is necessary to ensure the safety and stability of the home.
As the crew gets to work, Bryan takes Dave and Heather on a shopping trip to pick out materials for the basement renovation. They discuss their ideas and preferences, and Bryan helps them to choose the best options to fit their budget. They decide to create a bar area, a movie room, and a storage space in the basement, with a rustic and cozy design.
Once the foundation work is complete, Bryan and his team can get started on the rest of the renovation. They install the framing, electrical, and plumbing, and begin finishing the walls and ceiling. Dave and Heather are thrilled to see their vision for the basement coming to life, and they are impressed with the quality of work and attention to detail.
As the project nears completion, Bryan brings in a professional stonemason to install a custom wine cellar, built into the foundation wall. Dave and Heather are thrilled with this feature, and it becomes the centerpiece of their new basement. Bryan also surprises them with a few other finishing touches, including a custom-built bar and a hidden door that leads to the storage area.
In the end, Dave and Heather are overjoyed with their new basement and grateful for Bryan's expertise and guidance. They thank him for helping them to overcome the unexpected challenge and for turning their dream into a reality. Bryan is happy to have been able to assist them and proud of the stunning transformation he and his team have achieved.
