Ep 7. Twist and Doubt
- September 21, 2015
In the fifth season of the hit HGTV series, Leave It to Bryan, episode 7 "Twist and Doubt," viewers are transported to the Canadian suburbs where Bryan Baeumler and his team tackle yet another complicated renovation project. The show, which first appeared in 2012, has proved incredibly popular for its combination of beautiful renovation designs and Bryan's lively personality.
In this episode, Bryan is tasked with a difficult challenge: to renovate a couple's basement suite to maximize its space even though it's restricted due to a low ceiling. The couple in question has a clear idea of what they'd like: a room to relax in complete with a bar, a bathroom, and enough space for sleepers. But with the limited headspace, the project will be a difficult one.
As is typical of Bryan, he approaches the project with an incredibly positive attitude, excited to take on yet another different and tricky build. He comes up with a bold plan that will make the most of the limited space and accommodate all of the couple's desires within the small area.
The challenge is not only to create a space that meets the clients' needs but also one that is functional, visually attractive, and durable. Bryan and his team have their work cut out for them in this time-sensitive project, with the added pressure of unexpected problems that could pop up at any time, and the limited space that they have to work with.
The folks at HGTV do a great job of keeping the viewer engaged throughout the show. They mix in a bit of comedy with the day's entanglements, which has people laughing along with Bryan throughout the episode. There are moments of drama as the client's concerns are brought up, culminating in an emotional reveal at the end of the show. It's gripping stuff and the reasons for the series' immense popularity.
As Bryan focuses on the basement area, the open kitchen project upstairs is also a critical part of the show. A family with a baby is looking to renovate their kitchen, hoping for a modern and comfortable-looking cooking space. But there is one concern. The wife is a vegetarian, while her husband eats meat. The kitchen has to cater to both of their requirements at once.
Bryan's experience, as is typical of him, comes in handy. He works with the couple to address their changing needs, come up with an overall aesthetic that will both look great, be practical, and cater for everyone's food requirements.
As always, it's fantastic to watch the transformation of the houses from start to finish, to see the creativity in how to manage tight spaces, to understand how Bryan and his team tackle various challenges, and finally to see the clients overcome with joy at the end of each episode. With each season, Leave It to Bryan continues to be the go-to show for renovation lovers, and episode 7 of season 5 does not disappoint.
