Ep 10. Turn Down or What
- September 28, 2015
Leave It to Bryan is a popular home renovation and design show that follows the charismatic host, Bryan Baeumler, as he helps homeowners transform their living spaces into functional and stylish oases. In Season 5 Episode 10, titled Turn Down or What, Bryan is called upon to help a couple struggling with a noisy living situation.
As the episode begins, we meet Erin and John, a young couple who recently purchased an older home in a charming neighborhood. They fell in love with the house's historical charm and character but quickly learned that with age comes noise. Erin and John's bedroom is located directly above the living room, and they can hear every sound that comes from below. The couple is constantly being woken up by the TV, kids playing, and even footsteps, making it difficult for them to get a good night's rest.
Enter Bryan, who meets with Erin and John to assess the situation and come up with a plan to help the couple get the peace and quiet they need. Bryan, with his extensive knowledge of construction and design, immediately identifies the root of the problem. The floors in Erin and John's bedroom and living room are made of hardwood and aren't properly insulated, allowing noise to travel between the two spaces.
Bryan explains to the couple that they have two options: either turn down the noise or turn up the insulation. Erin and John are torn between wanting to keep the beautiful original floors and wanting a quiet space to rest, so Bryan lays out their options. If they choose to turn down the noise, they can install soundproof drywall and ceiling tiles, but that would mean losing the charm and history of their original hardwood floors. On the other hand, they could turn up the insulation by installing a special insulation product underneath the flooring that would prevent noise from travelling between rooms. Erin and John ultimately decide to go with the insulation option, allowing them to keep their beloved floors and ensure a restful night's sleep.
Bryan wastes no time in getting started, enlisting his team of skilled contractors to help with the renovation. The first step is to remove the existing hardwood floors in both the bedroom and the living room to install the insulation layer. This process is complicated and requires precision to avoid damaging the original floors. Bryan is on site every step of the way, making sure that the work is being done correctly and that Erin and John are happy with the progress.
Once the insulation layer is installed, the next step is to lay down a subfloor and then re-install the original hardwood flooring. Throughout the installation process, Bryan makes sure that the floors are level and perfectly aligned, paying close attention to the details that will make all the difference in the final product. He also takes care to preserve any original woodwork or trim details that will add to the overall character of the home.
As the renovation progresses, Erin and John are thrilled with the transformation of their home. The insulation layer has made a noticeable difference in the soundproofing of their bedroom, and they're amazed at how new and refreshed their living room looks with the refinished hardwood floors.
In the final reveal, Bryan unveils the finished product, and Erin and John are over the moon with the results. They have a beautiful, historic home that's been updated with modern soundproofing technology. Bryan has managed to strike the perfect balance between preserving the charm of the original home and providing his clients with the peace and quiet they need to rest and relax. As always, Bryan has succeeded in his mission to Leave It to Bryan.
