Beaver's school is taking class pictures, and all the kids are excited to have their picture taken. However, Beaver is concerned because he has a missing front tooth and he's afraid that he's going to look silly in the picture. His classmates reassure him that it won't matter and that he'll still look great, but Beaver is still worried.
Meanwhile, Wally is also taking his class picture, but he's not as worried about it as Beaver. However, he does want to look his best, so he decides to dress up a bit for the occasion. He wears a nice suit and tie, which impresses his classmates and teachers.
When Beaver gets home and tells his parents about his concerns, Ward and June try to reassure him that his missing tooth won't make a big difference in the picture. However, Beaver isn't convinced and decides that he doesn't want to take the picture at all.
The next day at school, Beaver hides out in the boys' bathroom to avoid having his picture taken. But when his teacher comes looking for him, he has to face his fears and go to the picture spot. When it's his turn to take the picture, Beaver puts on a brave face and smiles big, missing tooth and all.
After the pictures are taken, the kids eagerly await the arrival of the proofs. When they finally come, Beaver is disappointed to see that his missing tooth does indeed make him look a little silly. However, his classmates and family encourage him to embrace his unique look and be proud of who he is. In the end, Beaver realizes that it's not just the way you look on the outside that matters, but who you are on the inside as well.
"The School Picture" is a sweet and heartwarming episode of Leave It to Beaver that shows how even the smallest insecurities can loom large in a child's mind. It's a reminder that we should always encourage and support our loved ones, no matter what their worries may be.
