In Leave It to Beaver season 3 episode 24, titled The Hypnotist, the Cleaver family is introduced to Mr. Preston, a hypnotist who is performing at a nearby theater. Beaver is fascinated by the idea of hypnosis and convinces his parents to let him attend the show.
After the show, Beaver is still intrigued by the concept of hypnosis and asks Mr. Preston if he can be hypnotized. Mr. Preston agrees and puts Beaver into a hypnotic trance.
During the hypnosis, Beaver is given a suggestion to stop being lazy and to clean his room. The next day, June is amazed to find Beaver's room spotless, but she soon realizes that something is not quite right with her son. Beaver no longer seems to have any interest in his usual hobbies or spending time with his friends.
June confides in Ward, who is initially skeptical but soon becomes concerned when he also notices the change in Beaver's behavior. They decide to take Beaver back to see Mr. Preston to see if he can reverse the hypnosis.
At the theater, Mr. Preston instructs Beaver to go back into a trance and reverses the suggestion he had given him before. Beaver wakes up feeling like his old self again, but Mr. Preston warns the family that hypnosis should only be performed by professionals and should not be taken lightly.
Meanwhile, Wally is dealing with his own issues when he learns that his girlfriend, Julie, plans to dump him for a boy she met on vacation. Wally tries to win her back by buying her a necklace, but the plan backfires when Julie thinks it's too serious of a gift and ends up breaking things off with him anyways.
In the end, the Cleaver family learns a valuable lesson about the power of suggestion and the importance of only trusting trained professionals when it comes to matters of the mind.
