In Season 1 Episode 16 of Leave It to Beaver, titled "Lumpy Rutherford," the Cleaver family's eldest son, Wally, has been tasked with planning his best friend Lumpy's birthday party. However, Wally's plans hit a snag when he discovers that Lumpy is having an after-school detention on the day of his party.
Unwilling to cancel the party, Wally concocts a plan to sneak Lumpy out of detention early. However, things don't go quite as smoothly as planned, and the boys find themselves in a heap of trouble.
Meanwhile, Beaver is dealing with his own troubles at school. He's been nominated for class monitor but is unsure if he's cut out for the job. With encouragement from his family, Beaver decides to give it a shot, but finds out that being in charge isn't as easy as it seems.
Throughout the episode, the Cleaver family offers up their signature wholesome wisdom to help the boys navigate their problems. But as always, things don't always go as planned in the world of Leave It to Beaver.
