When a wealthy woman gets killed on the street in broad daylight, detectives Mike Logan and Phil Cerreta are called to the scene. The investigation leads them to two potential suspects - a homeless man who witnesses claim was chasing the victim moments before the murder, and the victim's ex-husband, who was recently released from prison.
As the detectives dig deeper into the case, they discover that the victim was heavily involved in drugs and was using her wealth to support her habit. They also learn that the homeless man, who seems to have a history of mental illness, may have been set up to take the fall for the murder.
Meanwhile, ADA Ben Stone is struggling with his own personal demons as he deals with his father's declining health. His father, a prominent defense attorney, has always been at odds with Ben's career as a prosecutor, and their strained relationship is only getting worse as his father's condition worsens.
As the trial approaches, the detectives and the ADA must work together to uncover the truth and bring the real killer to justice. But as the evidence begins to mount against the victim's ex-husband, they start to realize that nothing is ever as it seems, and that sometimes the people we trust the most are the ones who are the most dangerous.
With tension mounting on all sides, and the stakes higher than ever, the detectives and the ADA must navigate a world where the line between right and wrong is increasingly blurred, and where justice is not always black and white. Will they be able to find the truth before it's too late, or will they fall victim to the same forces that are tearing their city apart? Find out in this gripping episode of Law & Order.
