Ep 8. Blood Money

In the Law & Order season 10 episode 8, "Blood Money," the focus is on a supposed wealthy couple from a respectable social circle whose lives are taken during a home invasion. The case quickly bubbles to the surface, and the detectives in the squad room come to the conclusion that this was no random act of violence.   The ensuing investigation reveals a complicated web of lies, deceit, and greed, within not only the victim's social circles but also those of the lead detectives. The prime suspect, a young man from a low-income neighborhood, appears to have a hardcore bravado that does not faze Detective Green or Detective Briscoe. They think they have him pegged… until his alibi checks out.   Meanwhile, ADA McCoy and Assistant DA Carmichael catch the case and begin to put together that the wealthy couple was not so forthcoming about their finances. In fact, they learn that they were drowning in debt. With no signs of a break-in, the detectives begin to look within the victim's family for suspects in connection with the double murder of the couple. When the wealthy attorney who had handled the family's financial affairs turns up dead, all of the evidence begins to point to his associate who was trying to blackmail the victims.   What seems at first to be a tragic, senseless act turns into a web of financial crimes involving shady accountants, a zealous ADA, a treacherous legal colleague, and a family with more secrets than they care to admit. The case, handled deftly by the detectives and prosecutors, leads to a conclusion that provides justice for those who have been wronged, while laying bare the darkness that can lurk in the heart of even the most well-respected individuals.
