During the first episode of the sixth season of Law & Order: UK, titled "Survivor's Guilt," two violent crimes take place, and the team must solve them both.
The episode opens with a teenage girl, Tanya, standing on a bridge, ready to jump. She is saved by the police, and the team begins investigating to determine why she was considering suicide. After speaking to her mother and father, it is discovered that Tanya was sexually assaulted by a boy at school, and after reporting the crime, she was bullied by her peers. The boy, Ryan, was suspended but returned to school a few days later. The team must determine if the school failed to protect Tanya and if Ryan is responsible for her suicide attempt.
Meanwhile, a mother and daughter are attacked in their home. The daughter, Laura, is killed, and the mother, Vivienne, is left fighting for her life in a coma. Vivienne's husband, Frank, is a retired police officer and is prime suspect, as he was seen arguing with his wife the night of the attack. However, the team uncovers that Frank's son was involved in a gambling debt and may be responsible for the crime.
As the two investigations progress, the team must deal with their own personal struggles. DS Sam Casey is dealing with the aftermath of a personal tragedy, which is impacting his work. DS Ronnie Brooks contemplates retirement after a lifetime of service, and Alesha Phillips deals with the reality of prosecuting violent crimes.
As the team delves deeper into both cases, a web of deceit and lies is uncovered, leading them to question everything they thought they knew. Will they be able to solve both cases and bring justice to the victims? The season six premiere of Law & Order: UK is a gripping and emotional episode that is not to be missed.
