When a young girl goes missing from a foster home, the Special Victims Unit is called in to investigate. The girl, who was living with her older sister, had gone to bed one night and was gone the next morning. The sister is distraught and claims that she had nothing to do with her disappearance, but the detectives aren't so sure. As they delve deeper into the case, they discover that the sisters had a tumultuous relationship and that the missing girl had been struggling in school and acting out. When they learn that the sister had been involved with a much older man, their suspicions are heightened.
As they continue to investigate, the detectives uncover a web of lies and deceit. They discover that the missing girl had been trafficked and that her sister had played a role in her abduction. The detectives race against time to find the missing girl before it's too late. The case takes a toll on the detectives as they struggle to piece together the puzzle and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, Benson deals with personal issues when her relationship with a newspaper reporter is exposed. She must navigate the fallout and decide how much she is willing to reveal about her private life. As always, the detectives must balance their personal struggles with their professional obligations as they try to solve the case.
