Detectives Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe) investigate a series of murders that appear to be linked to a mysterious healer. When the first victim is found dead inside a church, Goren and Eames discover a pattern of brutality that includes victims being burned with candles and having the phrase "Father forgive me" carved into their skin.
As they delve deeper into the case, Goren and Eames discover that the killer is likely someone who believes they are doing God's work by punishing those he deems sinners. The detectives also learn that the killer may have connections to a faith healing group that has been accused of committing fraud.
As they try to track down the killer, Goren and Eames are faced with a number of challenges. The faith healing group is not cooperative, and there are conflicting stories about the killer's identity and motivation. The detectives must also deal with the personal demons that are always lurking beneath the surface for Goren, who struggles with his own faith and belief in God.
As the case takes a number of twists and turns, Goren and Eames must use their intuition and intelligence to catch the killer before he strikes again. Along the way, they discover that the truth about the case is not always what it seems, and that sometimes the most surprising suspects can be the most dangerous.
