Last of the Summer Wine season 9 episode 5, titled "Who's Feeling Ejected Then?", is a classic example of the show's quirky and light-hearted nature. The episode opens with Howard and Marina discussing their plans for the day, which unfortunately get interrupted when Howard's old scooter breaks down. However, Compo comes to the rescue with his trusty sidecar, and offers to give Howard a lift into town.
Whilst on their way, the trio stumbles upon Sid and Wally, who have just purchased an old-fashioned traction engine. Unable to resist the temptation, Compo decides to climb into the engine's cab and take charge, much to the chagrin of the two proprietors. A hilarious sequence of events ensues as Compo tries and fails repeatedly to start the engine, eventually sending it hurtling backwards through a hedge.
Meanwhile, back at the cafe, Nora Batty and Ivy are discussing the idea of raising money for a new hospital wing by putting on an amateur dramatics performance. A clearly unimpressed Compo turns up, sporting a dirty boiler suit and covered in oil, and proceeds to mock the ladies for their dramatic aspirations. However, as the conversation turns to who should star in the play, Compo becomes more involved and starts to suggest potential casts.
Back on the road, Howard and Marina are enjoying a peaceful stroll when they stumble upon a disused jetty. After some gentle persuasion, Marina convinces Howard to try and relive their youth by jumping into the water. However, things take a turn for the worst when Howard accidentally loses his trousers in the process, leading to a frantic and comical chase sequence as he tries to retrieve them.
The episode ends with the introduction of another new character, a young milkman named Billy, who seems to have caught Ivy's eye. As the ladies continue to discuss their upcoming play, a very sheepish Billy sneaks in to retrieve his forgotten milk bottles, much to the delight of his new admirer. Overall, "Who's Feeling Ejected Then?" is a classic example of the witty humor, lovable characters, and quaint charm that have made Last of the Summer Wine a beloved TV show.
