The episode titled "Wind Power" from season 9 of Last of the Summer Wine follows the misadventures of the trio of older gentlemen, Compo, Clegg, and Foggy, as they attempt to harness wind power in their own DIY fashion.
The episode begins with the trio walking through the countryside, with Compo bemoaning the rising price of electricity and the group joking about various methods to cut their bills. Eventually, they come across a large wind turbine on a nearby hill, which impresses them with its size and the amount of energy it appears to generate.
Inspired by this, the group decides to try their hand at building their own wind generator. They head to a nearby junkyard to scavenge parts, where they run into an old acquaintance, a local scrap dealer named Seymour Utterthwaite. Seymour is taken by the idea of the trio's wind generator and offers to help them find more parts.
With Seymour's help, the trio constructs a makeshift wind generator in a nearby field. However, their lack of expertise soon becomes apparent when the generator starts wildly spinning out of control, drawing the attention of nearby villagers.
The group decides to abandon their wind generator project and instead turn their attentions to repairing a broken-down van that they found in the same junkyard. However, in typical Last of the Summer Wine fashion, things do not go smoothly, with various mishaps and miscommunications leading to a series of comedic situations.
Meanwhile, the village is abuzz with rumors about the trio's wind generator, with some locals even speculating that the strange contraption is a new type of radar installation. The village's police constable, who is the butt of many jokes throughout the episode, becomes convinced that the trio is attempting to spy on the village and decides to investigate.
The episode reaches its climax as the trio attempts to take the van through a narrow alleyway, only to find themselves stuck. Their attempts to escape only make the situation worse, until they are finally freed by the somewhat unexpected presence of a herd of cows.
"Wind Power" is a classic episode of Last of the Summer Wine, full of the show's trademark humor and warm-hearted charm. It is a testament to the enduring appeal of the series, which ran for an impressive 31 seasons and remains beloved by fans of all ages.
